Application of Arcoseal in the sheet pile interlock
Arcelor developed a new sealant for sheet pile interlocks. Arcoseal is a mixture of wax and mineral oil. It is applied hot and remains flexible when it has cooled. It is suitable for use with all U and AZ sheet piles and for cold formed sheet piles. It can be applied to free interlocks, or to crimped or uncrimped intermediate interlocks.
Its good resistance to chemicals makes it suitable for both temporary works and permanent works with long service lifetimes. It can be used in conjunction with all sheet pile driving methods (pitch-and-drive or panel driving) on condition that the air temperature is higher than 0°C.
Arcoseal meets the average waterproofing requirements of sheet pile structures (hydrostatic head of up to 10 m).
It has good resistance to chemicals (except petrol and crude oil), does not pollute, and can be used safely below the water table.
