Brochure underground car parks

21st August 2008

Underground car parks

Steel sheet piles can be used perfectly to construct underground car parks. Apart from their use as retaining elements for building pits, they can also serve as foundation elements supporting vertical loads and as a permanent visible wall of the underground volume.

This new brochure presents 6 case studies of recent projects in which sheet piling was used as an integral part of the structure:

  • Tourcoing - France
Single-level underground car park for a building with a shopping mall and a 40-unit apartment block, next to an existing tramway.
  • Haarlem - Netherlands
Car park with three underground levels for a commercial area of 20,000 m² and 220 apartments.
  • New Islington (Manchester) - UK
Single-level underground car park for a block of 142 apartments, next to the Ashton Canal.
  • Kolkata - India
Underground shopping mall at level -1 and car park at level -2, each with an area of 4,000 m². Both levels were built with the top-down method, which reduced the building time considerably.
  • Sint-Martens-Latem - Belgium
Underground showroom for a Mercedes-Benz car dealer. The sheet piles were installed with a vibration-free hydraulic press.
  • Dadeland (Miami) - USA
Car park with two underground levels for a landmark project with 416 condominium residences and an 11,500 m² retail area.
